The ongoing conflict in Sudan is taking a devastating toll on women, children, and girls. The situation in Khartoum and across the country is dire. Since the fighting began on 15 April 2023, at least 28 hospitals, including maternity hospitals in Khartoum, and all hospitals in rest of the country have been affected. In the capital Khartoum, more than half of the health facilities have been destroyed or forced to close. Thousands of women and girls – including an estimated 219,000 pregnant women in Khartoum alone – have been left struggling to access life-saving health services, including maternal and new-born care and protection services. In the city of Sennar, more than 1500 families are currently taking refuge of which 95% of are women, girls, and children.

AWETHU is partnering with “Sennar Baitak initiative” (Sennar your home), a group of young medical doctors and medical students from the Al Housh Al Kabeer Charity Organization Sennar (AACOS) who have committed to staying and supporting women and girls fleeing the war in Khartoum, to provide some level of humanitarian assistance especially in Medicare.

We are planning two major events to raise funds and procure medications, hygiene products and other lifesaving products to ameliorate the suffering of these people.

On the 30th of June 2023, at the Vienna International Centre’s Cocktail Lounge, and on the 15th of July 2023, at the Ikaze Rwandese Restaurant, Donau City Strasse 1, 1220 Vienna.
