A Response to Congressman Brad Sherman’s Offensive statements Against Eritrea

On October 10, 2021, whilst lending his support to H.Res 445, Congressman Brad Sherman argued for violent action, stating, “…The American navy could interrupt Eritrea’s commerce on the high seas at any time and it would be just to do so as long as Eritrea blockades humanitarian aid to the people of Tigray…”

Again, on December 02, 2021, he repeats his appalling comments about Eritrea. Read more

Asmara, 20 August 2021 – The 47th Annual Eritrean community festival in the US was enthusiastically conducted from 14-15 August, under the theme “Resilient: As Ever!” report indicates. The annual festival that was conducted at the Eritrean Cultural Center in Washington, D.C., was attended by thousands of nationals as well as friends of Eritrea from all over the USA.

The two-day festival highlighted seminars on the objective situation in the homeland and regional developments, workshops, as well as cultural and artistic performances and exhibitions. Read more

President Isaias Afwerki receives American delegation

Asmara, 07 May 2021- President Isaias Afwerki yesterday in the afternoon hours received and held talks at Denden Guest House, with the US Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa, Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman. In the four hours meeting, President Isaias Afwerki underlined Eritrea’s readiness to work in cooperation with the United States in the effort to resolve the problems in the Horn of Africa.

Ambassador Jeffrey on his part explained the perspective of the United States Administration on the prevailing situation in the Horn of Africa. The meeting was attended by Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Presidential Adviser Mr. Yemane Gebreab.

Asmara, 23 August 2020- The Eritrean community festival in the US that was held from 15 to 22 August under the theme “resilience and Progress” concluded with patriotic zeal.The festival that was officially opened in Seattle and went for seven days in various cities in the US was virtually conducted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival was featured by more than 32 programs including seminars regarding ‘Geo-Political Situation in the Horn of Africa’, ‘Eritrea’s Role in the Horn of Africa’ ‘National Development Strategy of Eritrea’ ‘All Rounded Effort to Combat COVID-19 Pandemic’, ‘Nurturing the Youth with Eritrean Noble Values”, “Importance and Progress of Public Diplomacy’, ‘Objective Situation in the Homeland’, ‘Recollection of Festivals in the Past 40 Years’ and others. Press Statement on US Travel Ban

The US Administration issued a Press Statement on Friday, January 31st this week, putting Eritrea in the second tier of countries for which “overseas issuance of immigrant visas is suspended” for certain of “their nationals”.

The GOE has consistently opposed “automatic asylum” and other misguided measures invoked by certain countries in the past 20 years for ulterior reasons of “strategic depopulation” against Eritrea.  The GOE had in fact lodged legitimate protests against previous US Administrations that followed similar policies in 2004 and 2009 respectively.
