Call to strengthen sports activity

Asmara, 09 December 2021- At an activity assessment meeting conducted on 8 December, Ambassador Zemede Tekle, Commissioner of Culture and Sports, called for giving due attention to sports activity beyond domestic and regional competitions.

Indicating that the sources of sports development are schools and sports federations, Ambassador Zemede called for identifying strengthens and shortcomings and working for a better outcome. Read more

“Asmara Marathon” held in Asmara

Asmara, 09 June 2019- “Asmara Marathon” in which over 60 athletes from various East African countries participated was held on 9 June in the main streets of the capital, Asmara. The participating athletes include from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan and Tanzania.

Eritrea’s Mehari Tsegai won the race and Ethiopia’s Tadese Asefa and Eritrean Petro Mamo settled second and third respectively. The first three winners received a 6 thousand, 4 thousand and 3 thousand Dollars respectively from Ambassador Zemede Tekle, Commissioner of Culture and Sport. Athletes who stood from 4th to 10th rank also received prizes from Maj. General Romodan Osman Awliay, Governor of the Central region. Read more

Eritrean Cycling National team wins Amissa Bongo competition

Asmara, 28 January 2019- The Eritrean Cycling National Team emerged victorious at the 14th Amissa Bongo Cycling competition held in Gabon from 21 to 27 January. The Eritrean national team comprised Daniel Teklehaimanot, Metkel Eyob, Henok Mulubrhan, Biniam Girmai, Sirak Tesfom and Aaron Debretsion. Sirak Tesfom won the “King of the Mountain of Amissa Bongo” competition while Henok Mulubrahan “Best Young Rider”.
