Joint Statement by Foreign Ministers of the State of Eritrea and the People’s Republic of China

5 January, 2022, Asmara

  1. At the invitation of H.E. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Eritrea, H.E. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, undertook an official visit to Eritrea from 4 to 5 January 2022. During the visit, State Coucilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi held bilateral talks respectively with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and H.E. President Isaias Afwerki.  Both sides had in-depth exchanges of views on various bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest in a cordial and candid manner.

Eritrea and China agree to strengthen Strategic Partnership

Asmara, 05 January 2022- President Isaias Afwerki received at State House today Chinese senior delegation led by State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Minister Wang Yi conveyed a message of President Xi Jinping to President Isaias inviting him to visit China for extensive talks on the bilateral Strategic Partnership. President Isaias for his part applauded China’s monumental progress in the past 100 years under helm of Communist Party of China to the benefit of Chinese people and the world at large. October 1, 2020, is the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and 2020 is also an extraordinary year for China. . . . On the 73rd World Health Assembly held in May and the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity Against COVID-19 held in June, H.E. President Xi Jinping announced a series of international cooperation against COVID-19, including pledging that once the development and deployment of COVID-19 vaccine are completed in China, African countries will be among the first to benefit, which demonstrates China’s sincere desire to build a community with a shared future for mankind. Eritrean students in China are in good health

Asmara, 18 February 2020 – The Eritrean Embassy in China indicated that so far no Eritrean student in that country is reported to be infected with the virus COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Eritrean students at the universities in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, also stated that even though the lockdown has restricted their movements, they are following every instruction the Government of the Peoples Republic of China is issuing regarding the virus outbreak. Read more

Embassy of China in Eritrea celebrated Chinese New Year

Asmara, 20 January 2020 – The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Eritrea on 18 January celebrated the Spring Festival heralding Chinese New Year.

The national anthems of Eritrea and China were played at the opening of the ceremony, which was attended by a number of Eritrean Government officials as well as invited guests.
