Growing in the Eritrean society is exceptionally warm. The holiday season in Eritrea is characterized by the visiting of relatives, rejoicing with neighbors, settling conflicts, forgiving friends and foes and looking forward to a new beginning. The celebrations of this year’s Christmas and New Year may be toned-down due to COVID-19, but I am sure the tradition of making resolutions for the New Year will continue. Read more

I was born in Zagir in 1949. My parents, who were farmers, were very fond of education and enrolled me at a school when I was ten. And my elder brother, who was with the Air force, used to encourage me a lot. After I finished elementary school in Zagir and Dekseb, I came to Biet Gergish and attending general examination. I was so ambitious that while attending 7th grade I was allowed to do 8th grade in the evening and got promoted to 9th grade and joined Kehas (Keih Bahri Secondary School) right away. I went to prison after I took part in a students’ demonstration. Then I returned to school and decided to be a pilot as I had high marks in high school to get admission to the pilot training program. So, I went to Debrezeyt, Ethiopia, to join the pilot training program and spent almost a month there. I was the only Eritrean and was expelled without any valid reason. With a friend’s advice I joined the Navy in 1973 and studied for four years. Read more

Asmara, 09 December 2021- At an activity assessment meeting conducted on 8 December, Ambassador Zemede Tekle, Commissioner of Culture and Sports, called for giving due attention to sports activity beyond domestic and regional competitions.
