Mawlid al-Nabi celebrated nation wide

Asmara, 29 October 2020 – Mawlid al-Nabi was celebrated across the nation today, 29 October. Virtual Format Celebrations at Asmara’s Grand Mosque Al- Khulafae Al-Rashid this morning was broadcast live for two hours on Eri-TV, Dimtsi Hafash, Radio Numa and Radio Zara. Sheikh Salim Ibrahim Mr. Mohammed-Seid Beshir, chairman of the Awkaf in Asmara, gave briefing on the historical background of the celebration. In his spiritual message, Acting Mufti Sheikh Salim Ibrahim on his part wishing a happy Mawlid, thanked all institutions involved and urged for patience and resilience to maintain Eritrea’s commendable track record of controlling COVID-19. The Mawlid al-Nabi celebration was highlighted by spiritual performances conducted by the sheiks, spiritual teachers and students.

Efforts have also been made to establish peace and cooperation in other parts of the Horn of Africa by including other countries within cooperative frameworks (such as Somalia, through the tripartite Agreement on Comprehensive Cooperation). Asmara, 20 October 2020 – Eritrea’s senior delegation composed of Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and Presidential Adviser Yemane Ghebreab met, today in Khartoum, Sudan’s President of the Sovereign Council, General Abdulfatah Al-Burhan, and delivered message from President Isaias Afwerki.

The Eritrean delegation also met Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok as well as Vice President Mohammed Hamadan Dugglo. The delegation congratulated the people and Government of Sudan on the country’s removal from the US list of “state sponsors of terrorism”. Read more

Dairy Farm Project at Misilam

By Billion Temesghen | The Eritrean Livestock and Crops Corporation has for long carried out several projects to empower dairy farmers and boost milk production in the country. One of their recent endeavors as part of the Logo-Misilam Development Pilot Project is related to modern dairy farming in Halhale, Southern region.

The project began towards the end of 2017 with 600 livestock of three breeds — Brown Swiss, Holstein and Fleckvieh — imported from Germany. Mr. Kibreab Abraham, manager of the Eritrean Livestock and Crops Corporation, said instead of handing out the imported heifers to farmers, their corporation wanted to first multiply the number of calves by hundreds and then diffuse the breed to dairy farmers in all parts of the country.
