A Tour in the Northern Red Sea Region

It is home to natural resources including a variety of marine species, incredible landscape, clear and unpolluted seashore, archaeological sites, infrastructure wonders, forestry, wildlife, and more and more. Every rock, every village, and every single place has its own history to tell and magnificence to provide to any lucky individual who visits, but even the lifetime of a man is not enough to study every single place in the Northern Red Sea region of Eritrea.

The region stretches 600 kilometers along the coastal line, and around 450 kilometers inland, a total area of 34,236 square kilometers with every single place of history and scenic beauty. Today, I would like to give you an overview of some select places in the region. Read more

Statement of the State of Eritrea on document No. MSC 103/9/3/Rev.1 submitted by the Islamic Republic of Iran under Agenda item 9 ‘Measures to enhance maritime security’ of the MSC 103rd Session.

Madame Chair, Your Excellencies and respected delegations,

The Government of the State of Eritrea wishes to express its appreciation to the International Maritime Organization’s 103rd Maritime Safety Committee for this opportunity and would like to address the Session in regards to this agenda point, specifically the draft resolution MSC 103/9/3 Rev. 1 presented by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Located along the busiest maritime commercial route and having one of the longest coastlines on the Red-Sea, Eritrea attaches utmost importance to the safety and security of its own as well as that of international maritime route along its boundary. Eritrea strongly believes that the Red-Sea and its international maritime route’s safety and security should, primarily be the legal responsibility and obligation of the littoral States. Read more

Senior Eritrean delegation participates at Red Sea and Gulf of Aden States Council

Asmara, 07 January 2020- Senior Eritrean delegation comprising of Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Presidential Advisor Mr. Yemane Gebreab and Mr. Hagos Gebrehiwet, head of Economic Affairs at the PFDJ, participated at the Ministerial Meeting of Arab and African Coastal States of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden convened in Riyadh.

At the meeting hosted by King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia on 6 January, Minister Osman Saleh reiterated Eritrea’s position that the Arab and African Coastal States of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden shoulder primary responsibility for the security and development of the Red Sea. Minister Osman further stated that the objective must be to build an effective regional organization with requisite competence and capability. Read more

Eritrea’s delegation, composed of Presidential Adviser Yemane Ghebreab and Hagos Ghebrehiwet, Head of PFDJ Economic Affairs participated at the Meeting of High – Level Officials of Red Sea and Gulf of Aden that was convened in Riyadh from 21-22 April, 2019.

في العام 1964, قرر ادريس شد رحاله الى ارض الأجداد، بعد ان مكث مع اهل كسلا الطيبين سبع سنوات كاملة، ذاق فيها معهم كل انواع واصناف تقلبات الحياة السياسية او المعيشية. وما ان وصل الى قرية ألشكرية (1) التي تقع على رأس الحدود الإرترية السودانية، حتى التقى بالصدفة بأحد عابري اصحاب الإبل، وبعد تبادل التحايا والسلام بادر ادريس سائلا:-
كيف الحال عندكم اخي الكريم؟
كان صاحب الإبل متعجلا في امره، فهو يدرك بأن وقوفه مع ادريس سوف يعرض إبله ونفسه لمراقبة بعض مراكز حراسة الجيش الإثيوبي، التي تراقب اي تحرك والتي لا تبعد عنهما سوى بضع امتار من الحدود المشتركة الإرترية السودانية، وربما يتعرض لإطلاق نار احد جنود اثيوبيا، فنادى صائحا على زملائه كي ينتظروه ليقول:- asPDF
