1. The International Year of Health and Care Workers
This year, 2021, is officially recognized by the global community as the International Year of Health and Care Workers (IYHCW). The original decision came late last year when the World Health Organization (WHO) and its affiliated bodies made the designation in recognition of health and care workers’ dedication to providing care during and despite the COVID- 19 pandemic that has challenged health systems worldwide. Health and care workers include all those engaged in health services, public health and related areas, as well as those providing support to these activities. This broad category of workers encompasses health professionals such as doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, and physiotherapists, in addition to allied health professionals, such as mental health workers, social care workers, occupational health workers, radiographers, laboratory workers, and others. Commendable societal awareness on voluntary blood donation
Asmara, 29 November 2020 – Commending the already registered awareness on voluntary blood donation, health professionals called for its reinforced integrated effort on organizing awareness raising campaigns throughout the country.
At an interview conducted with Eri-TV, Prof. Tsegereda Gebrehiwet, Dr. Yosief Tewelde and Dr. Habteslasie Zerezgi commended the National Blood Transfusion Center and the National Association of Blood Donors for their contribution in supplying Hospitals with blood. Read more

Six patients have been diagnosed positive for COVID-19 in tests carried out today at Quarantine Centers in Adibara (1), Shilalo (2)), Mukhti (1); Goluj (1), and Om-Hager (1) in Gash Barka Region. All the patients are nationals who returned from Sudan and Ethiopia recently. On the other hand, twelve patients who were receiving medical treatment in hospitals in Gash Barka and Southern Regions have recovered fully and have been released from these facilities.
The total number of recovered patients to-date accordingly stands at 353. The total number of confirmed cases in the country to-date has risen to 381.

Three COVID-19 patients who had been receiving necessary medical treatment in hospitals in the Southern Region have recovered fully and were released from these facilities today.
This brings the number of recovered patients to-date to 248. The total number of confirmed cases in the country to-date is 285.
