Contribution to fight COVID-19 pandemic

Asmara, 09 June 2020- Contribution by nationals to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic is continuing.

According to the Ministry of Health, employees of Mendefera sub-zone contributed 84 thousand and 555 Nakfa, employees of Maritime Service Corporation 42 thousand and 671 Nakfa, Eri-Tel Assab branch 10 thousand and 817 Nakfa, Aman Hakim cement product enterprise in Mhyaw 10 thousand Nakfa, and other small businesses and cooperative associations in Gash Barka and Central regions contributed a total of 25 thousand Nakfa.

According to the Eritrea’s Consul General in Toronto, nationals in Canada have made additional contribution of 125 thousand Canadian Dollars towards augmenting the National Fund to fight COVID-19 pandemic. Read more

Guidelines from the High Level Task Force on COVID-19

In its statement of 16 May last month, the High-Level Task Force on COVID-19 announced that the GOE has “decided for the launching of random and extensive testing to gauge the spread of COVID-19 in the country in a comprehensive and more reliable manner”.

In accordance with this guideline, the first phase of extensive random testing in various sections of Asmara was completed yesterday, June 2nd, 2020.  The modalities of random sampling and testing were conducted jointly by the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and the National Laboratory.

The random sampling and testing carried out fulfilled the standard criterion in terms of size of representative sample, urban density, demographic composition, gender, and other determinant variables.  The tests covered 4659 households, with one representative of the household undergoing the actual nasal and throat swab tests. More contribution in support to contain spread of COVID-19

Asmara, 07 April 2020- Nationals inside the country and abroad have contributed over 1.2 million Nakfa and 171 thousand Riyals to bolster the Eritrean Government’s measure to contain the spread of COVID-19.According to report from the Ministry of Health, the Office of Iftae and Islamic Affairs contributed 1 million Nakfa, Mr. Tekle Gebremedhin and Ms. Yodit Bereket, owners of SIEMENS Company, 50 thousand Nakfa, Africa car rental 50 thousand Nakfa, and Mr. Berhane Tekali 30 thousand Nakfa.

In the same vein, association of Eritrean returnees from Northern US contributed 10 thousand Nakfa, two Asmara residents who want to stay anonymous 5 and 2  thousand Nakfa respectively, Bee Farmers Association in the Central region two quintals of honey, and Mr. Yemane Hidat 2 thousand Nakfa.
