Residents of Central region celebrate Independence Day in community tents

Asmara, 23 May 2011 – The residents of 3 sub-zones and 13 administrative areas in the Central region today celebrated the 20th anniversary of Independence Day in well-decorated community tents.

The participants of the celebrations told ERINA that they are not celebrating the Day for mere enjoyment, but rather for renewing pledge in redoubling endeavors towards backing up the development drive.

Expressing deep impression with the development programs implemented over the past 20 years, they stated that the noticeable improvement in the people’s lifestyle in different parts of the country fully attest to such achievements. In this connection, the participants expressed high tribute to martyrs who sacrificed their dear lives in the realization of independence and safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.

The Administrator of Gala-Nefhi sub-zone, Mr. Solomon Haile, outlined the accomplishments registered as regards ensuring social justice and economic emancipation over the past years since independence.

Songs, musical performance and dramas were staged at the community tents which were decorated by flags, slogans and neon lights.
