President holds talks with Special Envoy of Australian Prime Minister

Asmara, 22 June 2012 – President Isaias Afwerki today received and held talks at the State House with Mr. Tim Fischer, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Australia, Ms. Julia Gillard.

During the meeting, the two sides noted the development attained in Eritrean-Australian ties, and voiced readiness to foster mutual cooperation regarding the achievement of food security and agricultural development in general.

Commending the contribution of Australian nationals in the days of the armed Struggle for Independence, President Isaias asserted Eritrea’s readiness to further enhance bilateral relations.

Following the meeting, Mr. Fischer told the Eritrean New Agency that Eritrea’s policy as regards ensuring food security is timely. Indicating that that the two countries share common understanding on international issues in general and the United Nations in particular, he said that both sides have agreed to exert joint effort towards bringing about the required change in tune with the current developments at the international level.
