National Geographic Information System Center organizes training course for 42 staff members

Asmara, 8 December 2012 – The National Geographic Information System Center has organized a 3-month training course for 42 staff members from 16 line Ministry offices in the 6 regions.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony conducted at Embasoira Hotel, Mr. Yemane Gebremeskel, Director of the Office of the President, underscored that we are living in an era in which an astounding innovation is being witnessed as regards computer and communications technology, and that the mapping of national programs requires timely, complete and reliable information system so as to ensure effective implementation.

He further elucidated that the national policy of ensuring social justice seriously seeks equitability, and thus giving rise to the need for effective GIS.

Likewise, Lt. Colonel Getachew Merhatsion, head of the national GIS center, called on government institutions and bodies to enhance adherence to GIS-based reporting system as the gathering and processing of accurate, timely and accountability-involving information system is a crucial prerequisite for proper decision making.

Moreover, the beneficiaries of the training staged projects that were prepared on the basis of data from regional administrations and ministries.
