Meskel religious holiday today celebrated in Asmara

Asmara, 27 September 2012 – The religious holiday of Meskel (Finding of the True Cross) was celebrated today in Asmara city with zeal.

Members of the faithful headed by His Holiness Abune Dioskoros, 4th Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, conducted a rite as regards the Day at Bahti-Meskerem Square after visiting Debre Mekane Semaeti Kidus Giorgis Church.

Heading the observance, His Holiness Abune Dioskoros delivered a sermon and wished the faithful peace and prosperity. A seminar was also conducted regarding the historical significance of the holiday and hymns were presented.

Government officials, diplomats and tens of thousands of the faithful took part in the observance, according to reports.
