Joint seminar of National Confederation of Eritrean Workers and OATUU conducted here

 Joint seminar of National Confederation of Eritrean Workers and OATUU conducted hereAsmara, 18 July 2013 – A joint seminar of the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers (NCEW) and the Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) was conducted yesterday and today in Asmara city as the second series meeting following its commencement on July 4 in Lomé, Togo.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tekeste Baire, Secretary General of the NCEW, explained that the seminar is aimed at assisting workers to enrich their intellectual and other capacities so as to enable them protect, defend and promote their rights and interests, besides raising their production capacity and backing national cultural development endeavors.

In a speech he delivered entitled “The Principled, Not the Sycophant, Shall Inherit the Earth,” Mr. Ibrahim Abrar, Treasurer General of the OATUU, pointed out on his part that the OATUU is conscious of the historic responsibility of the present generation of African labor leaders as regards recruiting and training next generation so that the younger Africans can keep the trade unions alive and strong. He further explained that the 3-year educational program launched last March would be conducted in 10 African countries on the basis of 6 phases, and that it is expected to raise the level of representation of Africans in international forums.

Moreover, Mr. John Kofi Takpo, Assistant Director of Education and Research at the OATUU, gave briefings pertaining to the objectives, structure and cherished outcome of the program, while the seminar participants put forth views and conducted discussion thereof.
