International Children’s Day observed nation-wide

Asmara, 8 December 2013- December 8-International Children’s Day was observed at regional and national level under the theme “Ensuring the Rights of Children is the Responsibility of Every Citizen”.

At the ceremony conducted at national level in Asmara in which senior Government and PFDJ officials, Representative of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Eritrea, parents and children from different schools were present, different programs were staged depicting the day.

In a speech she delivered, Ms. Salma Hassan, Minister of Labor and Human Welfare, indicated that the EPLF has been working to ensure the rights of children even during the trying times of the armed struggle for independence, and the achievements registered after independence emanate from that.

Dr. Suleiman Raimo, Representative of UNICEF in Eritrea, on his part commended the efforts being conducted by the Government and people of Eritrea for the success of Millennium Development Goals, and that his organization would stand on the side of the Government in its efforts to ensure the rights of children.

At the ceremony Wari Cultural Troupe presented different dramas and songs and children from different kindergartens passed through the streets of Harinet and Semaitat chanting different songs and slogans depicting the day.
