Foreign Minister conducting official visit to Russia

Asmara, 17 February 2014 – The Eritrean Foreign Minister, Mr. Osman Saleh, is on a 4-day official visit to the Russian Federation at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Mr. Sergei Lavrov.

In a meeting the two officials conducted today, they asserted that Eritrea and Russia share similar views and stances as regards major regional and international issues. The two sides also agreed to work jointly pertaining to ensuring peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, as well as combating terrorism and acts of extremism.

Regarding the emerging mutual cooperation, they reached understanding that the two countries would foster cooperation in the domains of trade, investment, education and culture, with an emphasis on registering concrete achievements to this end this year.

Also in the afternoon hours today, Foreign Minister Osman met with President Vladimir Putin’s Special Envoy on African Affairs, besides holding discussions with representatives of Russian firms focusing on trade and investment, according to reports.
