Farmers in Gash-Barka region called upon to step up efforts to promote production

Tessenei, 15 August 2011 – The Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Mr. Musa Rab’a, called on farming communities to step up their edeavours to conserve and judiciously utilize waters of the rainy season. During a tour he conducted in farmlands in the sub-zones of Tessenei and Golij, the Administrator pointed out that although the rains began late, agricultural activities are nonetheless in good condition in major parts of the region. He also called on farmers who were rehabilitated in Qachero from Anseba and Southern regions to enhance endeavors towards boosting production.

In a course of his visit to Bademit micro-dam with a capacity of holding about 32 million cubic waters, Mr. Musa expressed conviction that it would make due contribution in improving the living standard of the inhabitants, besides augmenting animal feed.

After insepecting the 2,500 hectares put under cultivation in Tessenei-Aligidir Agricultural Project by famers, the Administrator called for redoubled endeavors in line with the self-reliance principle.
