Eritreans Celebrate Independence and Protest Ethiopian Occupation

Eritreans Celebrate Independence and Protest Ethiopian Occupation

by Sofia Tesfamaryam | As part of the 21st Independence Anniversary commemorations which will include a festive picnic on Saturday 26th May 2012 and a musical gala at the renowned Convention Center in Washington, DC, Eritreans and Americans of Eritrean origin will conduct a rally to celebrate 21 years of pride and dignity.

They will march to manifest:

  • Eritrea’s proud and illustrious history
  • Eritrea’s self reliance policy
  • Exemplary culture and traditions of ethnic and religious tolerance and respect
  • Eritrea’s undeniable role in bringing peace, security and stability in the turbulent Horn region

They will also raise their voices to protest Ethiopia’s 10-year long occupation of sovereign Eritrean territories, including Badme and the negative role played by successive US Administrations in undermining international law and the UN Charter.

By providing the minority regime in Ethiopia led by Meles Zenawi diplomatic, financial, military and political shield and support as it violates International law and the Eritrea Ethiopia Boundary Commission’s final and binding delimitation and demarcation decisions, the US Administration has made itself part of the problem instead of the solution in the Horn.

The rule of law must prevail over the law of the jungle!
