Eritrean people welcomes May 24 with sense of patriotism and pride

Asmara, 24 May 2011 – Eritrean citizens inside the country and abroad celebrated Independence Day on May 24 with patriotic zeal through staging street dances and colorful fireworks.

Hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life flocked to the Liberation and Martyrs avenues here in the capital last night dancing and rejoicing accompanied with colorful fireworks.

The participants of the celebrations said that the prevailing joyful atmosphere is the outcome of bitter struggle and heavy sacrifices on the part of the Eritrean people. Such colorful celebrations also conveys strong message to enemy quarters, they added.

Noting that the programs featured in the course of the celebrations amply demonstrate the Eritrean people’s firm unity, strength, capability and creativity, the participants stated that the nation is entering a promising stage of prosperity thanks to all-round endeavors.

Also at dawn today, a 21-cannon fire took place on the occasion of May 24.

It is to be noted that Eritrean nationals at home and abroad celebrated the 20th anniversary of Independence Day for two consecutive weeks with strong sense of patriotism and pride.
