Eritrean citizens at home and abroad enhancing support to martyrs’ families

Asmara, 11 June 2011 – Eritrean nationals inside the country and abroad are making major contribution in assisting and caring of martyrs’ families, the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare disclosed.

The director of martyrs’ families care branch in the Ministry, Mr. Zerai Tekleab, told ERINA that in line with their voluntary initiatives, concerned Eritrean citizens at home and abroad donated about 130 million Nakfa over the past 7 years towards supporting families of fallen heroes.

He further explained that the 2-year voluntary program of assisting martyrs’ families is also well underway accompanied with heavy responsibility and family love. Nationals at home have also emulated the program and is assuming good prospects, Mr. Zerai added.

Noting that the beneficiary families continue to express satisfaction and pride with the sacred initiatives being taken by fellow nationals, he said that there exist concerned nationals inside the country who have taken the responsibility of assisting up to 20 families of fallen heroes, while Eritreans in the Diaspora are supporting up to 10 martyrs’ families.
