Eritrea’s foreign policy founded upon universal principles and the rule of law: Official

Asmara, May 17, 2011- Eritrea’s foreign policy is founded upon the principles of universalism and the rule of Law and seeks to promote regional peace and stability, ensuring security and development, as well as enabling the country become a dignified member state of the international community, stated the Director General of Desks in the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Fisehatsion Petros.

In a paper he presented on the on-going symposium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Fisehatsion outlined the diplomatic and political tasks accomplished over the past 20 years against all odds.

Pointing out that at present the international arena is dominated by a sole superpower, he explained that countries of the West have been engaged in exploiting resources and cheap labor from the developing countries. In this respect, Ambassador Fisehatsion outlined the influence of the US administration’s strategy in the Horn region and gave briefings regarding Eritrea’s diplomatic relations with the US and the countries of Europe as well as Asia-Pacific.

On her part, the head of the affairs of Eritreans in the Diaspora in the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Hanna Simon, highlighted the vital role played by Eritreans residing abroad in the struggle for Independence and in the nation-building process.
