Rwanda genocide Commemorated
The 23rd commemoration of Rwanda genocide was observed in Asmara yesterday, April 25. At the vent in which high level government and PFDJ officials, Ambassadors as well as the Rwanda National Cycling Team that was here to participate at the Tour Eritrea 2017 took part, Ms. Christine Umutoni, UN Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, said that this year’s commemoration of the Rwanda genocide is observed under the theme “Walk to Remember”, and appreciated the Government of Eritrea for its cooperation to mark the event. Italy migrant crisis: Charities ‘colluding’ with smugglers
An Italian prosecutor says he has evidence some of the charities saving migrants in the Mediterranean Sea are colluding with people-smugglers. (Image AFP)
Carmelo Zuccaro told La Stampa (in Italian) phone calls were being made from Libya to rescue vessels. Organisations involved in rescue operations have rejected accusations of collusion, saying their only concern is to save lives. Italy is the main route for migrants trying to reach Europe. Read more

The Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission was established pursuant to an agreement dated 12 December 2000, alternately entitled “Agreement between the Government of the State of Eritrea and the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia” and “Agreement between the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Government of the State of Eritrea”.
Eritrean Delegation Visits Juba
Asmara, 4 April 2017 – Eritrea’s delegation consisting of Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and Presidential Adviser Yemane Ghebreab met, in Juba, South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Myardit on Monday 3 April this week.
The Eritrean delegation conveyed to President Kiir a message from President Isaias Afwerki expressing Eritrea’s solidarity and support for the people and government of South Sudan.
President Salva Kiir stated that his government was ready to continue and develop its long standing cooperation with Eritrea. He briefed the delegation on developments in South Sudan and reaffirmed his government’s determination to restore peace, national cohesion and to rebuild the economy.
Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and the delegation also met First Vice President Taban Deng Gai and discussed priority areas for bilateral cooperation. Read more
President Isaias Receives Kenya’s Foreign Minister
Asmara, 10 January 2017- President Isaias Afwerki today received and held talks with Dr. Amina Mohamed, Kenya’s Foreign Minister and candidate for the Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
The President underlined the need for the enhancement and revitalization of the African Union to ensure that the African continent holds its rightful place in the world. President Isaias further emphasized the urgency for both the African Union and the regional organizations (RECs) such as IGAD to get their acts together to advance the widely shared objectives of the continent’s economic integration.
