50th Anniversary of OAU/AU founding celebrated here

50th Anniversary of OAU/AU founding celebrated hereAsmara, 28 May 2013 – The 50th Anniversary of the founding of Organization of African Unity/ African Union was celebrated today in Asmara in the presence of Ministers, PFDJ officials, regional Administrators and representatives of international organizations in the country, in addition to Ambassadors and diplomats.

Speaking on the occasion organized by the Foreign Ministry, representing Minister Osman Saleh, the Head of Desks in the Ministry, Mr. Fisehatsion Petros, explained that Africa is endowed with abundant potential, and that the people of the continent expect the AU to become people-oriented and people-driven. He further stated that they look forward on the continent to assume its dignity in the community of nations, free from external manipulation and servitude.

As the people of Africa celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the OAU/AU, the people and Government of Eritrea seize the opportunity to pay special tribute to the generation of Pan-Africanists and the founding fathers who laid the foundation of the continental body, Mr. Fisehatsion underlined.

It is to be recalled that in connection with the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the continental organization, President Isaias Afwerki addressed a message to Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, focusing on Eritrea’s perspective on specific parameters. These pertain to independent national policy, peace and security, regional economic groupings, as well as Africa’s fault lines and emerging problems.
