Asmara, 25 May 2020- The leaders of Sudan, Kuwait, Serbia and Libya sent messages of congratulations to the people and Government of Eritrea in connection with the 29th Independence Day anniversary.In their massages, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan, Lt. Gen. Abdul Fatah Al-Burhan, Emir of Kuwait Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber, President of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Aleksandar Vucic and President of the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord of Libya Mr. Faiez Mustafa Al-Serraj wished good health to President Isaias Afwerki and peace and prosperity to the Eritrean people.

The leaders also expressed readiness to develop friendly relations and mutual cooperation with Eritrea.

Asmara, 23 May 2020- The leaders of Ethiopia, the United States, Swiss Federation, Sweden, Republic of Sri Lanka and Republic of Croatia sent messages of congratulations to the people and Government of Eritrea in connection with the 29th Independence Day anniversary. In his congratulation message to the people and Government of Eritrea, Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed of the Federal Democratic of Ethiopia wished good health to President Isaias Afwerki and peace and prosperity to the Eritrean people.

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed also expressed his confidence that the fraternal relations existing between the two countries will be further strengthened for mutual benefit of the two sisterly countries. Read more

Keynote Address by President Isaias Afwerki 29th Independence Anniversary Asmara, 24 May 2020

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Allow me to extend my warmest congratulations to the entire people of Eritrea inside the country and abroad on this auspicious, 2020, National Independence Day.  Let me also express profound gratitude to the Commission of Culture and Sports, all other entities, and, individuals involved in the creative preparation of programmes and events so as to imbue due splendor to this momentous day despite the looming threat of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Leaving aside the controversial issues on how and where from COVID-19 originated, the colossal threat of this sudden pandemic – unprecedented in the annals of the history of mankind – and that is claiming, sadly, a huge loss of life is indeed a wake-up call for all of us.  What is more perplexing is that the calamity is occurring in the 21st century; in an era of high scientific progress.  In the event, it is timely and incumbent on us to draw appropriate lessons from this disaster, deepen our knowledge and understanding, and adjust our overall approach and roadmap for the period ahead. Praiseworthy vaccination program

Asmara, 21 May 2020- Mr. Tedros Yihdego, head of Vaccination Programs at the Ministry of Health, reported that in the past 29 years of Independence praiseworthy vaccination programs have been conducted.

Indicating that in 1991 five types of vaccinations were provided and the coverage has been 9.4%, Mr. Tedros said that from 2002 to 2019 the types of vaccinations have gradually increased to 13 and the coverage to 98%. Read more
