Eritreans in Diaspora celebrate Independence Day anniversary

Asmara, 21 May 2019- Eritrean nationals in the UK, Italy, Canada and Australia have celebrated the 28th Independence Day anniversary with patriotic zeal under the theme “Resilience for Higher Progress”.

The ceremony that was conducted on 20 May in London in which over 2 thousand nationals took part, Mr. Estifanos Habtemariam, Eritrean Ambassador to the UK and Northern Ireland, said that this year’s Independence Day celebration is being conducted at the time in which Eritrea emerged victorious against all external conspiracies aimed at derailing the national development progress. Ambassador Estifanos went on to say that the new era of peace and cooperation is the result of the strong resilience and commitment of the Eritrean people and called as in the past to strengthen participation. Asmara, 20 May 2019- President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi of the Republic of Egypt, President Xi Jinping of the Peoples Republic of China, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the Federal Republic of Germany Pope Francis of Vatican sent messages of congratulations to the people and Government of Eritrea in connection with the 28th Independence Day anniversary.

In their messages, President Michael Higgins of Ireland, President Moon Jae-in of the Republic of Korea, King Felipe VI of Spain, as well as the Mr. Asad Qaiser, Chairman of the National Assembly of Pakistan wished  good health to President Isaias Afwerki and peace and prosperity to the Eritrean people.

Eritrean nationals in Sudan celebrate Independence Day anniversary

Eritrean nationals residing in Sudan celebrated the 28th Independence Day anniversary under the theme “Resilience for Higher Progress” on 17 May featuring various activities portraying their attachment with their homeland.

At the celebrations held in Khartoum in which Sudanese officials and a number of Eritrean nationals as well as invited guests took part, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, Charge d’Affairs at the Eritrean Embassy said that this year’s Independence Day anniversary is being celebrated at the time in which the Eritrean people have achieved significant diplomatic victories. Mr. Ibrahim further noted that strong effort is being exerted to ensure the ongoing process of peace and cooperation in the Horn of Africa. Read more

Cultural performances in connection with Independence Day anniversary

Cultural concert organized by Eritrean cultural troupes, musicians and dancers was staged yesterday, 17 May at Bahti-Meskerem square in connection with the 28th Independence Day anniversary.

The concert that lasted for three hours was broadcast live through Eri-TV and that a dancing and musical cultural troupe known as BOBA, the Ministry of Defense’s Walta cultural troupe, as well as Admas Dancing Troupe staged performances depicting cultural diversity and history of the people of Eritrea.
