Asmara, 30 May 2019 – President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and Prince of Malta Giacomo Dalla Torre sent messages of congratulations to the people and Government of Eritrea in connection with the 28th Independence Day Anniversary.

Eritrea participating at UN Habitat Assembly

Asmara, 30 May 2019- Eritrean delegation led by Mr. Beyene Russom, Eritrean Ambassador to Kenya and Tanzania and Permanent Representative of Eritrea to the UN Human Settlement and Environment Program, is taking part at the First Session of the UN Habitat Assembly taking place in Nairobi from 27 to 30 May.

Speaking at the meeting that is underway under the theme “Innovation for Better Quality of Life in Cities and Communities”, Ambassador Beyene said that the interchanging factors of poverty, unemployment coupled with the emergence of new technology, opportunities, better facilities and increased wealth are among the main factors for the rapid urbanization. And that caused displacing agricultural workforce, climate change disasters and other man made crisis causing mass migrations from rural areas to urban centers, Ambassador Beyene added. Read more

Projects to ensure potable water supply

Asmara, 29 May 2019- The Ministry of Land, Water and Environment reported that major nation-wide projects of water infrastructure and distribution networks, especially in Asmara, launched in the past years are progressing with satisfactory pace to address household consumption, agricultural and industrial needs in accordance with comprehensive national roadmap.

Indicating that pre-independence Eritrea had been relying from rainfall, the Ministry indicated that in the past 28 years about 300 dams have been constructed with a view to enrich under ground water. The report further stated that provision of potable water in urban areas has increased from 30% to 90% and that of rural areas from 7% to 80%. Read more

Eritreans in various countries celebrate Independence Day anniversary

Asmara, 28 May 2029- Eritreans residing in Kampala and in various Italian cities celebrated the 28th Independence Day anniversary with patriotic zeal.

At the celebration in Kampala in which about 800 nationals, friends of Eritrea and invited guests took part, Mr. Mohammed Suleiman, Eritrean Ambassador to Uganda, said that this year’s Independence Day celebration is unique for it coincides with the unfolding peace and cooperation in the region and called for reinforcing contribution and unity. Eritreans in Netherlands celebrated Independence Day anniversary

Asmara, 27 May 2019- Eritrean nationals residing in the Netherlands celebrated the 28th Independence Day anniversary in patriotic zeal.

The celebratory event that was opened by the Eritrean Ambassador to the European Union, Mr. Negasi Kassa featured various programs depicting their attachment with their homeland.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Negasi said that this year’s Independence Day anniversary is unique for it is being celebrated following the unfolding peace and cooperation in the region and that is the result of the commitment and steadfastness of the Eritrean people. Read more
