During the 63rd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women – New York, 14 March 2019

Madame Chair,
Excellencies,
Distinguished delegates,

On behalf of the Government of the State of Eritrea and the Eritrean women, I am honoured to address the 63rd session of the CSW.

I pay tribute to all women who fought and continue to fight for gender equality and create a better future for all; and to the Eritrean women whose enormous sacrifices in the struggle for liberation and nation-building have become a defining character of Eritrea. Read more

Ambassador Estifanos delivers statement at Tokyo Peace Day

Asmara, 15 March 2019- Mr. Estifanos Afwerki, Eritrean Ambassador to Japan has delivered a speech at the Tokyo Peace Day commemoration held on 10 March in Tokyo.

In his speech, Ambassador Estifanos said that the bombing of Tokyo City and its horrific human cost in 10 March 1945 is part of the World War II’s atrocities that was experienced in all parts of the world. Ambassador Estifanos explained that the same heinous acts of war crimes were committed over the Eritrean people by the successive colonial powers. Read more

Eritrea wins gold medal in Elite Team Trial

Asmara, 15 March 2019- Eritrea’s National Cycling Team won gold medal today 15 March at the 14th African Continental Championship Elite Time Trial that is being held in Bahr Dar, Ethiopia.

Eritrea has become winner of the Gold Medal in the African Cycling Championship for the ninth consecutive time. At the competition that covered 46.6 km the Eritrean National Team was represented by Sirak Tesfom, Meron Teshome, Mekseb Debesai and Yakob Debesai and they finished the competition in 1 hour and 42 seconds. Various activities by Eritrean nationals in connection with March 8

Asmara, 14 March 2019 – Eritrean nationals residing in abroad conducted various activities in connection with 8 March, International Women’s Day depicting the role and contribution of Eritrean women in the struggle for independence and in safeguarding the national sovereignty.

According to report, at the events conducted under the theme “Peace the Result of Our Resilience – Development the Fruit of Our Toil” nationals residing in South Africa, Angola, Republic of South Sudan, Israel, Sudan, Kuwait and France, stated that the double fold struggle and the achievement the Eritrean women registered bears a noble chapter in the history of Eritrea. FDRE and Afar and Gambella opposition movements sign reconciliation agreement

Asmara, 15 March 2019- The Federal Democratic Government of Ethiopia and Afar and Gambella opposition movements have signed reconciliation agreement yesterday, 14 March in Asmara.

The reconciliation agreement between the FDRE and Afar opposition movement was signed by Ms. Aisha Mohammed, Minister of Defense of Ethiopia and Mr. Osman Mohammed, Deputy President of Afar region and the head of Afar opposition movement, Mr. Musa Ibrahim and head of Political Office, Gen.
