Government of Eritrea sends message of condolences

Asmara, 16 January 2019- The Government of Eritrea has condemned the heinous and cowardly attack perpetrated in Nairobi. In a letter to Ambassador Monica Kathina Juma, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, Mr. Osman Saleh conveyed message of condolences to the Government and people of Kenya. Minister Osman also wished speedy recovery to the wounded.

Foreign Minister Osman Saleh expressed Eritrea’s resolve and commitment to support Kenya’s relentless all rounded effort to eradicate terrorism from its land and neighboring Somalia.

Mendefera, 10 January 2019- The Southern region regional Assembly held its 18th regular meeting on 9 January in Mendefera.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Weldai Ghebre, Chairman of the regional Assembly, said that the new era of peace prospect shoulders every citizen to work hard for the national development.

General Secretary of Synod gives benediction

Asmara, 07 January 2019 – His Holiness Abune Lukas, General Secretary of the Eritrean Tewahdo Orthodox Church, Synod, gave benediction in connection with Geez Christmas.

Stating that this year’s Geez Christmas is being celebrated for the first time at a time of the unfolding peace between Eritrea and Ethiopia, the General Secretary of the Synod wished the peoples of Eritrea and Ethiopia a Happy New year and Merry Christmas. Read more

Omhajer-Humera border point re-opened

Asmara, 11 September 2018- President Isaias Afwerki and Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed officially opened today, 7 January 2019, the Omhajer- Humera border points connecting the two countries.

The Omhajer-Humera road that has been closed for 20 years is important road transporting people and goods from and to Eritrea-Ethiopia.

The event was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Osman Saleh, Presidential Adviser, Mr. Yemane Gebreab, Commandor of the Western Front, Brig. Gen. Tekle Kiflai on the Eritrean side and Dr. Debretsion Gebremicael, President of the Tigray region, Mr. Gedu Endargachew, President of the Amhara region and Gen. Seare Mekonnen, Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian Armed Forces on the Ethiopian side. Read more

Asmara, 04 January 2019- Senior Eritrean delegation comprising Foreign Minister Mr. Osman Saleh and Presidential Adviser Mr. Yemane Gebreab are on a working visit to the Republic of Kenya.

The Eritrean delegation today, 4 January met and held discussion with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Ambassador Monica Juma on the progress and strengthening of the understanding reached between President Isaias Afwerki and President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya on 15 December. Read more
