Press Release - Al-Sharq Al-awast: distorted newsIn the past few days, the London-based Alsharq Al-Awsat has published – in its Arabic and English editions – a number of distorted “news stories” on Eritrea.

To embellish and rationalize the TPLF’s continued flouting of international law and its occupation of sovereign Eritrean lands, the paper gullibly parrots mendacious pronouncements of the regime’s new Foreign Minister who claims, with a straight face, that his government “has long accepted the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission ruling on Badme”. 4th regular meeting of NUEW Central Committee

Dubarwa, 24 December 2016 – The Central Committee of the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) conducted its 4th regular meeting from 21-22 December in Dubarwa.

During the meeting, the head of Political Affairs at the PFDJ, Mr. Yemane Gebreab gave extensive briefings on the current situation in the homeland. Mr. Yemane also called on the Eritrean women to reinforce participation in the implementation of the charted out national development endeavors. Read more

Asmara, 13 December 2016 – Eritrean nationals residing in the UK and friends of  Eritrea have staged peace demonstration in London calling for respect to the rule of law and on Ethiopia to withdraw from occupied sovereign Eritrean territories in accordance with the final and binding ruling of the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission  (EEBC)  as well as an end to the unjust and illegal sanctions against Eritrea. Ambassador presents credentials

Asmara, 15 December 2016- The Eritrean Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Mr. Petros Tsegai presented credential to Mr. Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus as non-resident Ambassador.

At the event held on 13 December, Ambassador Petros conveyed a message of good will from President Isaias Afwerki. He also gave briefing as regards the current situation and Eritrea’s readiness to create strong cooperation with Belarus.

President Lukashenko on his part expressed his country’s eagerness to strengthen relations and cooperation with Eritrea in all sectors. He also wished good health to President Isaias Afwerki as well as peace and stability to the Eritrean people.

Press Statement – False Reporting by Al-Mayadeen

In its evening programme, “Maydania”, of current news analysis (7:00p.m.-8:00p.m.) yesterday, the Beirut-based Arabic Tv channel, Al-Mayadeen, wrongly asserts, that the “United Arab Emirates has acquired a 30-year lease for a military base in the Port of Assab”.

This is not the first time for Al-Mayadeen to broadcast wild and speculative news on Eritrea in a highly dramatized manner and without rudimentary verification. Read more
