Voilà plus d’un an que des manifestants défient le gouvernement éthiopien sous les tirs à balles réelles de la police. Sans défrayer la chronique ni même susciter l’intérêt des chancelleries occidentales promptes à promouvoir la démocratie partout dans le monde. « L’Éthiopie brûle », nous prévient Mohamed Hassan. Pour notre spécialiste de la Corne de l’Afrique, ancien diplomate éthiopien, les jours du gouvernement sont comptés. Pour le meilleur ou pour le pire.

La chute du régime est une opportunité de voir les Éthiopiens construire un véritable État démocratique. Mais le pays pourrait tout aussi bien imploser dans des combats interethniques. L’Éthiopie est à la croisée des chemins. The Congress was attended by women, YPFDJ as well as invited guests from 18 cities and 7 districts in North America. The Chairperson of the NUEW branch in North America, Ms. Samrawit Michael gave briefings on the objectives of the Union and the activities undertaken as well as the challenges encountered over the past four years. PROGRAM AGREEMENT TO ACCELERATE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ERITREA’S UPR COMMITMENT DISCUSSED AT THE UNITED NATIONS

New York—27 October 2016—The Permanent Mission of Eritrea to the United Nations in collaboration with UNDP Eritrea organized a side event, titled: “Mainstreaming Human Rights through Partnership”, on 25 October 2016 at the United Nations in New York. This is the third joint event sponsored by the Eritrean Mission to the UN and the UN Eritrea Country Team.

The event was chaired by Mr. Amanuel Giorgio, Charge d’Affaires, Permanent Mission of Eritrea to the United Nations and Ms. Christine Umutoni, UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Eritrea. Mr. Yemane Ghebreab, Advisor to the President of Eritrea, Ms. Senait Lijam, representing the National Union of Eritrean Women and member of the UPR implementation Coordinating body and Dr. Mansoor Mirza, UN Policy Specialist in Eritrea as well as key stakeholders were present at the side event. At the outset, I wish to express my profound gratitude to the People and Government of the Togolese Republic for the warm hospitality accorded to us and for the excellent facilities put at our disposal.

Eritrea, as a coastal State with more than 3300 kilometers long mainland and island coast, more than 350 islands, about 50,000 square kilometers of territorial waters and an Exclusive Economic Zone nearly the same size as its land mass, recognizes the need for prudent, effective and integrated maritime governance.
