 Annual festival of Eritrean community members in Germany conducted with patriotic fervorAsmara, 16 July 2013 – The 17th annual festival of Eritrean community members in Germany was conducted last weekend in Giessen city with patriotic fervor. The event witnessed seminars, children’s camp, literary contests, pictorial exhibition, youth forum and artistic activities depicting the prevailing popular resistance against hostile agendas.

In a seminar he conducted with the participants focusing on the current political and diplomatic affairs of the nation vis-à-vis the historical arenas thereof, Mr. Yemane Gebreab, Head of Political Affairs at the PFDJ, pointed out that the Eritrean people are in a position to focus on development thanks to the steadfastness they demonstrated against all odds. The Oromo and other long-suffering communities do not want independence but to be treated as citizens of the state. In August 2011, Bekele Gerba, an English teacher at Addis Ababa University and prominent politician, met with a delegation from Amnesty International to discuss the human rights situation in Ethiopia. Gerba, a vocal activist on behalf of his largely Muslim Oromo people, was deputy chairman of the opposition party Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement (OFDM) and a member of the executive committee of Medrek, the country’s main opposition coalition.
