UN-involved-in-Africaby Amanuel Biedemariam | It is hard to see or believe The UN as a warring entity for it is supposed to be the embodiment of neutrality, fairness, impartiality and judiciousness. It is supposed to be free from serving the agendas of one nation at the expense of another. The UN is not supposed to take sides between warring nations.

The UN is only supposed to work, when it is called for, (as in the cases of Rwanda that it terribly failed) at the behest of member nations. However, as the recent actions of UN rapporteur on Eritrea led by Ms. Sheila Keetharuth demonstrated the UN has effectively taken side and is aiding Ethiopia’s war efforts against Eritrea in pursuit of greater Western agenda led by US. Eritrean community members in the US mark Martyrs Day with patriotic zeal

Asmara, 23 June 2013- Reports indicate that Eritrean community members in Washington DC, Las Vegas, Seattle, Columbus, Atlanta and Dallas mark June 20 Martyrs’ Day with patriotic zeal and reiterate readiness to honor the trust of fallen heroes.

In a ceremony conducted in Washington DC Mr. Berhane Gerhiwot, Charge d’Affaire in the Eritrean Embassy pointed out that the event is an occasion during which nationals should reiterate their commitment in the nation-building process.

Mr. Alexander Tesfai, representing the YPFDJ, indicated that nation-building is part of the trust of martyrs, and called on the community members to enhance participation to this end. Read more

Eritrean Nationals in London – UK, commemorate Martyrs Day

Eritrean Nationals in London - UK, commemorate Martyrs DayLondon’s, Kenning-ton Park, over 2800 Eritreans came together to participate in the Martyrs Day organized by the Eritrean Public Campaign Committee (EPCC). Present at the London commemoration were H.E. Tesfamicael Gerahtu, Eritrea’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Embassy staff, Religious leaders, and invited guests.

The evening program began at 5:00pm with a moment of silence in memory of all those who sacrificed their lives for Eritrea’s liberty and sovereignty. The program included singing, poetry reading and speeches. Read more

During an afforestation venture they conducted yesterday around Emba-Derho area in connection with the event, the employees of the Ministry of Agriculture indicated that such activity should be pursued as a norm and popularized among the young generation. Read more
