The Government of Eritrea has issued Proclamation No. 173/2013 dated February 20, 2013. This Proclamation pertains to the opening of foreign currency deposit accounts in Eritrean banks, domestic commercial transactions and/or contracts, currency remittance and exchange and the declaration of currency for travelers arriving into and departing from Eritrea. It is to be noted that the previously issued Proclamation No. 171/2012, dealing with the participation of citizens in the ownership of public utility is already in effect. Read more

U.S. urges lifting of U.N. arms embargo on Somalia: envoys
by Mohamed Abdi | The United States is urging fellow members of the U.N. Security Council to agree to demands by the government in Mogadishu to lift the arms embargo on Somalia, which has been in place for the past 21 years, U.N. diplomats said on Tuesday.
The U.S. push comes after U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said last week that the 15-nation council should consider lifting the arms embargo to help rebuild Somalia’s security forces and consolidate military gains against al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab militants. Read more

In unusual rebuke, Saudi Arabia accuses Ethiopia of posing threats to Sudan & Egypt
February 26, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – A senior Saudi Arabian official unleashed a barrage of attack against Ethiopia saying that the Horn of Africa nation is posing a threat to the Nile water rights of Egypt and Sudan.
“The [Grand] Renaissance dam has its capacity of flood waters reaching more than 70 billion cubic meters of water, and is located at an altitude of 700 meters and if it collapsed then Khartoum will drown completely and the impact will even reach the Aswan Dam,” the Saudi deputy defense minister Khalid Bin Sultan said at the meetings of the Arab Water Council in Cairo.
