U.S. Ignores Ethiopia’s War Crimes

NAIROBI, Kenya — The United States and other Western governments are ignoring clear evidence of war crimes by Ethiopia, a key U.S. ally that launched a military crackdown on rebels last year, a human rights group said Thursday.

Separately, a U.S.-based science group said satellite images confirm reports that villages have been destroyed in the country’s Ogaden region.

New York-based Human Rights Watch said America’s relationship with Ethiopia means an alliance with a country repeatedly accused of violating human and political rights. In recent years, Ethiopia has become a U.S. partner in the fight against al-Qaida, which has been trying to sink roots in the Horn of Africa. Read more

Solid foundation being laid towards...

Asmara, 29 April 2011 – President Isaias Afwerki said that solid foundation is being laid towards ensuring equitable development for the benefit of generations.

The President made the salient remarks in the interview he gave to national media outlets tonight which was also transmitted live via alenalki, eastafro and hornofafrica websites. This was the first part of the interview focusing on the Eritrean national integrated development strategy and plan, political, security and diplomatic issues, as well as regional and international developments, especially the prevailing situation in North Africa and the Middle East and future prospects. Massawa City Being Transformed Into...

Massawa, 29 April 2011 – The Administrator of Massawa sub-zone, Ms. Fana Tesfamariam, said that Massawa has transformed into modern port city through preserving its age-old charm thanks to huge investment made in the post-independence period.

She explained that the tasks accomplished towards rehabilitating the war-ravaged infrastructure of the city and preserve its historical sites has enabled Massawa to become a major tourism destination. Read more

جاء ذلك في المقابلة التى اجراها فخامته مساء امس مع وسائل الإعلام المحلية. واوضح فخامة الرئيس اسياس افورقي في المقابلة التى استعرض فيها التطورات الداخلية الراهنة والخطة الإستراتيجية الوطنية للتنمية الشاملة والقضايا السياسية والأمنية والدبلوماسية والأضاع الإقليمية والدولية وخاصة قضايا شمال افريقيا والشرق الأوسط والتطورات الراهنة ومسارها المستقبلي والشأن الداخلي بالمعايير الزمنية والرؤى الثاقبة. واوضح ان خطى التنمية الإقتصادية ترتكز على متانة الأسس الموضوعة لها ، وان التنبؤات التى تشير الى ان الإقتصاد الإرتري سجل نموا بنسبة كذا بالمائة ليس مصادفة، وان مايجعل الإقتصاد الوطني اكثر طمأنينة هو بعده تماما عن الإتكالية والدعم الخارجي.
